Centro (Downtown)
The historic downtown area north of the Cuale River, centered around the iconic Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Explore the famous Malecón boardwalk, browse local markets, and experience authentic Mexican culture. More traditional and family-oriented than Zona Romántica.
Marina Vallarta
An upscale, planned community built around a 450-slip marina. Features a beautiful golf course, luxury resorts, and a pleasant malecón with restaurants and shops. More residential and tranquil than downtown, with a different, more polished atmosphere.
Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera)
A long stretch of beachfront hotels and resorts north of downtown along the main coastal road. Offers easy beach access, all-inclusive options, and proximity to shopping malls. Less walkable overall but convenient for those wanting resort-style stays.
Conchas Chinas
An exclusive residential area on the hillside south of Zona Romántica. Known for stunning ocean views, luxury villas, and small secluded beaches tucked between rocky coves. Very quiet and private, with limited dining options nearby.
Versalles
A primarily residential Mexican neighborhood between the Hotel Zone and Marina. Home to many excellent local restaurants and services. Offers an authentic local experience away from tourist crowds, with significantly lower prices.
5 de Diciembre
A transitional neighborhood between Centro and the Hotel Zone, named after an important date in Mexican history. Increasingly popular with younger visitors and digital nomads. Features a mix of local and tourist-oriented businesses.
Nuevo Vallarta
Technically in the state of Nayarit (not Jalisco), this planned resort community is about 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. Features wide beaches, all-inclusive mega-resorts, and a more isolated, self-contained vacation experience.
